Teen Praggnanandhaa reaches Chess WC final as 2nd Indian

Reashbahu Praggnanandhaa, is an 18-year-old resident of Chennai, India, Apart from being an Indian Grandmaster—the highest title bestowed upon chess players by the World Chess Organization—he has an older sister named Vaishali who is a WGM (Women Grandmaster). When he was younger, he developed an interest in chess games after watching his older sister play. He later began playing chess with her. She taught him a lot about the game of chess, and soon after, he turned it into one of his hobbies and developed a strong passion for it. He gained popularity recently when he defeated Hikaru Nakamura, the second-ranked chess player in the world, and Fabiano Caruana, ranked third. He also won a silver medal in the world chess championship, making history as the second Indian to reach the world chess champion final after Viswanathan Anand.

His first accomplishment was winning the world youth championship under-8 title in 2013 at the age of 7.

At the age of ten, he made history in 2016 by becoming the youngest international master.

In 2015, he gained his first grandmaster norm at 10 in the world junior chess championship.

At the age of twelve, R Praggnanandhaa overtook Gukesh Dommaraju as the second-youngest grandmaster in June 2018.

With a score of 8 ½ / 10 points, R Praggnanandhaa won the match at the 2019 Xtracon Chess Open in Denmark.

In the Airthigs Masters, an online rapid chess tournament, in 2022, R Praggnanandhaa became the youngest person to defeat five-time world chess champion Magnus Carlsen.
