Early life of Rahul Gandhi

Gandhi attended St. Stephen’s College to begin his undergraduate studies before transferring to Harvard University.

He moved to Rollins College in Florida, USA, the following year after his father was assassinated because of security concerns, and he finished his degree there in 1994. He received his M. Phil. from Cambridge the next year. Following his post-graduation studies, he started his professional career with the London-based management consulting firm, Monitor Group. In the 2014 Indian general elections, he managed the Congress’s campaign. The party had its worst-ever electoral performance, gaining just 44 seats as opposed to the 206 seats it had previously won in the 2009 general election. He took over his mother’s position as Congress party leader in 2017 and guided the group into the 2019 Indian general election. Despite winning 52 seats, the party did not secure the ten per cent of seats required to be the leader of the opposition. After this poor performance in the election, he resigned as party leader and his mother, Sonia Gandhi, took over as leader in the interim.
